3 Tolcarne Terrace, Newlyn, Cornwall.

Tolcarne Terrace is a Newlyn harbour side row of houses behind which is a two storey old work shed. This project refurbished this shed to create a new studio building as annexed accomodation to the main house on the front terrace.
As much of the original stone and unusually brick fabric of the building was to be retained. Most of the existing timbers were rotten to be replaced and the corrugtaed roof was resurfaced with natural slate.

Where new elements were
added they would a timber
framed and clad
construction, having the
benefits of being
lightweight and traditional
for the local net
loft vernacular.
