Artist's studio and gallery in rural Cornwall

BRIEF

Converting an old granite barn and former animal shelter into an artist’s studio and gallery space that provides ample daylight but not direct sunlight to an interior that is spacious enough to work on and display large art installations.

DESIGN

A building that is both modern and sympathetic. It appears as an utilitarian outbuilding in the landscape, appreciated as it always has been as a barn and shed. On arrival at the building it becomes more vibrant as the playfulness of building emerges from inside to out.

"The spirit of the structure can't be foreseen, for somewhere between, the architecture and the dream, more than the sum of its parts; somehow, somewhere, the heart."
Die Miracole by Lemn Sissay
